David Thomas won the class but surprisingly didn't contend for the overall win and only just came home in front of Jason Christie.

There's talk of engines being sealed at the next race. Wonder if this Zetec is really legal in Post Historic?

Neil didn't qualify very well, but was alongside Ian
Clark, about half way down the grid. The car was under-steering quite
badly and Neil had a few moments, returning to the paddock with gravel
stains all down one side. In his crews opinion the engine didn’t sound
right, missing as it hit peak revs before braking for Paddock Hill Bend.
The other problem was that the brakes were juddering when they got hot.
The brakes received a going over before the race and the
team had a long, long think about the tyre pressures calling Marc Lawrence
for advice. After this they made a big adjustment which was a good thing
as come the race the under-steer had gone.
David Howard won the race in fine style, followed by
Stephen Primett. David Thomas won the class but was not as fast as usual
and didn't threaten the overall leaders.
Neil got away well and passed Pete Halford off the
start. The problem was that Ian got a good start as well, despite getting
a bit sideways and making contact with Trevor Pickard’s Dolomite. Ian
had
a clear run at Paddock Hill bend while Neil was boxed in behind Kevin
O’Brien’s Firenza. Neil managed to squeeze by the GM machine before Druids
and set off in pursuit, but Ian headed Neil across the line on the first
lap. The situation was to change at Paddock where Neil got by Ian and then
Trevor Pickard later in the lap. On lap three Kevin O’Brien overtook Ian,
putting two cars between him and Neil.
Meanwhile David Howard was driving an immaculate race at
the head of the field, followed by Stephen Primett, hungry for a third
overall win in succession, Jason Christie, David Thomas and Mark Osborne.
David Thomas was definitely not as fast as usual and it wasn’t until lap 5
that he got by Jason. However, he wasn’t able to make any impression on
the flying duo. We lost Mark Osborne on lap 8, promoting Tony Crudgington
up to fifth place and that’s the way it stayed to the finish.
Trevor Pickard disappeared on lap five, so there was
only Kevin O’Brien between Ian and Neil who had started to tussle with
John Wrights Escort. Then Kevin O’Brien picked up the place, pulled away
from Ian and joined the John Wright/Neil Bray battle. Neil sensibly stayed
calm, letting Kevin past on the last lap to finish eighth overall and
second in class, five seconds in front of Ian and surprisingly only 14
seconds behind David Thomas.
James Christie won class D and with three starters in
the class gained max points, as did Stephen Primett. Neil is still leading
the championship but with a diminished margin.
