I don't know about you but I have given very little thought to how I'm going to run my trials car when there is no 4 star. Perhaps the solution lies in the interesting leaflet I picked up at a Shell station the other day :-

Taking Lead out of our Petrol

From 1st January 2000. leaded petrol (4 star) will no longer be available on general sale in the UK. This is a Government requirement and will benefit us all by helping to reduce emissions from road traffic and improving the quality of the air e breath.

If your car runs on 4 star petrol you have several options with Shell which will help ensure your car keeps running into the next century.

Just Pull In and Fill Up

The easiest, safest and most convenient thing to do will be to fill up with Shell's Lead Replacement Petrol (known as Shell LRP). This will contain a proven anti-wear additive which protects your engine in the same way as lead. There will be no difference in your cars performance. Shell LRP has been used successfully in Europe for the past 6 years, in countries where lead has already been removed from petrol.

Shell LRP will be introduced nation-wide across Shell's 1500 service stations in the autumn. It will be available at the pumps with the correct amount of anti-wear already in. You will be able to Pull In and Fill Up just as you do with 4 star today.

Seems good stuff to me. Any views on the "how to cope with no 4 star" debate welcome.
