Geoff's Edlesborough

Geoff Hodge wins overall.

Geoff Hodge was the overall winner, driving his RDT, a special constructed by Reg Taylor to represent what a Dellow would have been if built in the 90's. Class winners where Robin Howard (Citroen AX), Mark Ibbotson (Imp) and Ross Nuten (Dellow Mk2).

Wearing their sun glasses so we won't recognise them Keith Pettit presenting Geoff Hodge with his award.

David Holmes caught up with Robin in the afternoon and would have one Class A if he hadn't grounded out on this hill.

Honour was restored the afternoon when Ross overtook co-driver Tony Christie to take the win in Class D.

Falcon had good conditions for their Edlesborough Trial on 1st April. It had been raining during the week, so there was some moisture underfoot. Come the day of the event it was dry, a blessing as Edlesborough has zero traction when its wet on top and it can be impossible to even get to some of the hills. As it was a strong wind rapidly dried out much of the moisture and for a while it looked as if Clerk of the Course Keith Pettit might struggle to get a result as Robin Howard, Geoff Hodge and Tony Christy (co-driving Ross Nutens Dellow) all had clean sheets at the end of the second round. Keith tightened a few of the hills up for the third round, causing all the leading protagonists to drop scores, although not on the same hill. So at lunch Robin Howard was in the lead with two, followed by Geoff Hodge and Tony Christie on three, Ian Lawson (Marlin) on four and Ross Nuten with seven.

Others going well were David Holmes (Fiat Panda), Simon Groves in his recently acquired Dutton Melos and Ed Nikel in the Reg Taylor built, ex-Clive Booth Dellow Mk2 Replica. It was nice to see both Reg and Clive at Edlesborough and they will be together on The Lands End in Class 0. Reg has acquired a Ford Puma for a serious attempt at the Class 0 version of a Triple in 2008.

Keith made quite a few changes in the afternoon when competitors went out and tackled some very different sections. There were no Holloway's though as Ted had retired his Skoda with no clutch and the Golf shared by Alan and Leslie had fuel feed problems. Geoff continued his smooth driving, dropping only a further four marks to win overall on seven. Robin wasn't so lucky as some of the hills didn't suit Front Wheel Drive, finishing with 22. David Holmes had caught up with him but Robin won the class on the tie break rule. Mark Ibbotson maintained his Class C lead to the end and honour was restored when Ross overtook Tony Christie to take the win in Class D. Martin Cheshire and Arnold Lane had been struggling with the gearbox on Martins Peugeot all day and the car finally gave up on the last hill when the clutch disintegrated.
