April 2001 - Part 3

WWF News

No, this is not the World Wrestling Federation, but news about the Fugitive that the WW’s won their Triple with last year. An article in the latest issue of ReStart, the ACTC magazine, recounts how they rescued and rebuilt the car after it had lain forgotten on a farm for over four years. Now, they bought it from Dave Parry and guess who sold it to him! Yes none other than our own John Parson’s, pictured below.

John Parsons in his Fugitive, without the controversial crash helmet!

JP is reckoned to be the first trialler to try one of the American rails over here. They are a bit long and tricky to get round the corners but that wasn’t the reason why JP got rid of it. At the time it was considered outrageous to use such an "extreme" device on Classic Trials. Some of the establishment were outraged, especially when JP and bouncer wore crash helmets to stop them banging their heads on the roll bar! After having his entry refused on one event because the Fugitive was "unsuitable", JP gave in to the pressure and sold it (to Dave Parry).

In recent years JP has become well known for his V8 machinery but expect to see him on the hills with VW power again soon as be has bought the ex Graham Marshall Buggy from David Thompson.

I hear that John Quenby is retiring from the MSA. As Chief Executive was not allowed to have a Competition Licence so he confined his trialling to MCC events and the occasional outing in the Closed to Club class on the Clee.

Interesting snippets of information picked up at the bar at the AGM. Peter Mountain’s Dellow is coming together nicely, albeit a little delayed after the engine on the Morgan blew up. Richard Tompkins and Ed Nikel are both developing their Imp’s for more Classic Trialling. After his Tillerton problems Richard will be fitting a Ford diff in his to try to prevent it breaking under the strain of the increasing power!
